    Calculating Percentages

    Hi all,

I kind of stumbled on this forum trying to find an answer to a task I have been assigned to try and figure out. I don’t have much experience with excel and I am hoping somebody can help me. I have to pull a report from a server every morning and look at the amount of errors that were generated in the last 24hrs. There are quite a few of them, my current report has 11881 errors, but they are not all different errors. I need to figure out a way to show the percentage of each type of error in reference to the total amount of errors. Does that make sense? If I can upload a copy of the error report would that help?

    Thanks for your time

    Re: Super Noob, Lenghty Question

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

If you are happy with the results, please add to the contributor's reputation by clicking the reputation icon (star icon) below left corner

Please also mark the thread as Solved once it is solved. Check the FAQ's to see how.

Hi RMannon... Welcome to the forum.

Be sure to read through the Forum Rules so you can use and follow them effectively. For instance, all threads must have a title that exactly describes the issue.

Use the EDIT button on your post above, click GO ADVANCED and edit the title based on the content of your post... "Calculating Percentages" perhaps?

You can use the paperclip icon to upload a smaller sample of your workbook right here to your thread.

    Re: Calculating Percentages

    See Sheet1

If this is okay, then what I did was clicked a cell in column A, then go to Data|Pivot Table and Pivot Charts..

    Click Next

Ensure Range includes title of column in A13 and the full column A range.

    Click Next,

    Click Layout,

Drag the Error button from the right to the Row area and then drag it again to the Data area... double click on the Count of Error button in the Data Area... Click Options and click in the Show data as drop down and select % of column.

    Click Ok.

    Click Finish.
