    Display info from a drop down selection.

    Hello!

    I am working on a project at work right now that would help explain a situation depending on a selection from two different variables. I have created the list for both with no problem but now I would like have information pop up with an explanation of the situation chosen and such. The information would only appear when two selections are made, so it would be hidden until that point.

    How do I create this scenario?

    I feel going into a little more detail would help:

    One list contains a list of mainframe jobs.
    One list contains common errors the job recieves.

    When the job and error recieved are selected: information appears explaining the error and the solution.

    I am using Excel 2002. Thanks for your help! I hope I did a good enough job explaining what I am trying to do.

    To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

    If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

    Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

    Re: Display info from a drop down selection.

    So I figured out a solution on my own. There are many ways to solve this but one way that requires no VB scripting is to just create two rows of information and use the autofilter tool. From there you can fill in the rows of data with the information associated with each selection. It requires a lot of work but if you are not familiar with VB I think its the easiest option. To set the drop downs to default when the workbook loads you can put this into VB:

    Private Sub Workbook_Open()

    ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 1).AutoFilter 1, ""
    ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 2).AutoFilter 1, ""

    End Sub

    You would of course have to change the Cells accordingly to the format of your excel sheet.

    Hope this helps someone else who has a similiar question.
