Encoding problem with excel 2007

Please help quickly!

I have to fill in a tax declaration in Excel, and I am a total newbie at Excel. I have Excel 2007 in English, the document I am filling in is in Bulgarian. Everything is properly displayed and I have no problems inputting what I am supposed to, however, when I press the Verification button, I get a message dialogue where most of the text is in weird symbols, totally unreadable. I am not even sure if it is a problem caused by Excel encoding, of the document settings or of my Windows settings. Please help, at least with a clue where to look for the solution!
