    Vlookup subheading and subordinates

    Hi,

I have the following table in Excel:

    Apples
    Red 10
    Green 20
    Yellow 30

Let's say data are in cells A2 to B5 (where A2 is Apples and B5 is 30).
I would like to do a VLOOKUP for apples and then for Green.
So the information I need is how many green apples do I have?

    How do I do that?

    Thanks!
    Nick

    Re: Vlookup

Say your inputs are in C1 and D1, (apples and green, respectively) and your entire range is A2:B1000

    then:

    =INDEX(INDEX($B$2:$B$1000,MATCH(C1,$A$2:$A$1000,0)):$B$1000,MATCH(D1,INDEX($A$2:$A$1000,MATCH(C1,$A$2:$A$1000,0)):$A$1000,0))
Where there is a will there are many ways.
