    Import text fields into columns from txt file

    Hi,

    I have a file from PubMed with a bunch of citations in it, which often go above 10,000 per file. There are fields that mean certain things and I would like to be able to import the text file into Excel and parse certain fields into columns. Could you please help? thanks.

    The text file looks like this:

    PMID- 19782657
    OWN - NLM
    STAT- In-Process
    DA - 20091109
    IS - 1872-6240 (Electronic)
    VI - 1303
    DP - 2009 Dec 15
    TI - Functional near-infrared spectroscopy to investigate hemodynamic responses to

    Go ahead make a small version of the text file that represents 3-4 complete "records" to evaluate.

    Then make a workbook that demonstrates the column layout and how the data from that sample data set would fall into that layout. Shouldn't take long to mock up, should it?

    Then click GO ADVANCED on your next post and use the paperclip icon to post up your sample workbook and sample text file. That should make it absolutely clear what you want to accomplish, yes?

    Go ahead and complete the sample workbook. Put the data from the sample txt file into the workbook in the appropriate columns. Believe it or not, I expect you will do at least one thing I wouldn't predict and this makes it absolutely clear what you expect to happen.

    For instance, there are many AU values per record, so I'm interested in how you're going to lay that out.
