Question Struggling to calculate sum by attribute

[SOLVED] I would have liked to sum columns by a common attribute (see link below for screenshot) but am unsure how to do it. The dataset is of 200+ households with each member listed individually (and his assets). Any aid is greatly appreciated!

    Hi geoconsulting,

I'm not too sure what you need here. Could you re-post giving an example of what cell needs the formula and what result you would expect and why?

    Thnaks

Hey Jim, thanks for the response.

What i would like to do (see also screenshot) is to add all the rows that share the same "farmer_code" in A. I've done it manually in the screenshot for farmer_code "138". Basically adding up all the "2-1-1", "2-1-2", etc. The goal of course is to do this with a formula.

The end result would be only one unique "farmer_code" for each household that then contains in each column the sum of all the rows of that value.

    Does that make more sense?

    Hello Again

I have attched an example sheet that should do what you need.

The formula in column B only puts the total if it is a new code. This assumes the data is sorted by farmer code.

If you want to show the sum repeated for each row just remove the IF(OR at the start and the last ")"

    Hope this helps

Did it ever help! That was absolutely brilliant! The only change I had to make was to change the last statement to only count one column (as opposed to creating a total of all)!

My only question now is, how to thank you? Suggestions?

    Many thanks again, Jim!
