    Use of MAX function

    Hi ,

I have a spreadsheet that has multiple values for each of the dates in the year 2009. I also have another column that has a type associated with the date .

this is what i would like to find using a formula

    1. for each date and for each type sum values
    2. find the maximum of the values for each type

Is this possible through the use of max and sum /if using an array formula

    thanks

    tony

Use Pivot Tables... they should do both jobs.

Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Re: Use of MAX function

I am new to this forum do not knwo how to upload hence I am pasting the details here

    Data Type Value
    1/1/2009 p1 1
    1/1/2009 p1 1
    1/1/2009 p2 1
    1/1/2009 p2 1
    1/1/2009 p1 1
    1/1/2009 p2 1
    1/1/2009 p1 1
    1/2/2009 p1 0.5
    1/2/2009 p2 0.4
    1/2/2009 p2 0.3
    1/2/2009 p1 1
    1/2/2009 p2 1
    1/2/2009 p1 1

    date p1 p2
    1/1/2009 4.00 3.00
    1/2/2009 2.50 1.70

    Final Result
    P1 P2
    Max Value 4.00 3.00

From an application perspective , I am counting the max occupancy for certain rooms(p1,p2). Rooms can be occupied part day .

I can do this via a pivot table (which I have already done) . I am building a automated sheet that if I populate it with data should throw out the analysis.

    Hoep this helps

    Regards

    Tony
