I was creating a kind of league table for football and tennis matches. There is a point I would like to improve upon.

As you know, in a league table, rankings are based on primary and secondary criteria like total points, GD etc.

So far, i used to assign weight factors for each criteria (ex:10K, 1k, 100...)and then sort it based on the total value.

I would like to know if there is a better way to come up with this total value or is there a standard formula advised or used by the football federations or by the excel template generators ?
