Adding todays date to template automatically

    Greetings all,

Where I work we use excel to keep a report on the video files we record throughout the day. We have a template for this report which has the files we record automatically in it. We also add files that we have to manually record into the report. The problem with this template is that every morning I have to manually go through it and add the date in a 4 digit prefix to the end of each file name, so today would be 1221.

I was wondering what I would need to do to get this to automatically fill in upon the spreadsheet being opened? Would it be possible for me to have a button on the spreadsheet for the purpose of filling this in? Also, the date would have to stay static so when say todays report is opened next week it still has the relevant date on it, not the current days when it was opened... if that makes sense?

If you have any advice it is much appreciated, I am not massively familiar with excel but am quick at picking things up generally. I'v attached a workbook which I hope demonstates what I have tried to say/

    thanks, David

Hey thanks for that. Is there a way that I could get that to autofill at the end of the filename? For example, everytime a new entry is made in column 1, excel adds the date to the end of the filename?

    thaks for your help, DJL
