    [Solved]Vlookup

I have excel 2007 and I have a column that contains drop down boxes thats tied to a list. I am looking for a way to search the whole column for a word that may or may not contain that word and then if it finds it return a number from another column in the same sheet. I have read about vlookup but not sure if that is what I need or not.

    Many Thanks!
    Adam

VLOOKUP sounds exactly like what you need. Do you need any assistance with VLOOKUP?

Sure, I am by far no expert, but I have used VLOOKUP several times. Can you attach a sample sheet of what you are working on?

Sure what I need is on Mini-Dashboard A5 to check CurrentPayCheck E5 to see if there is a match and if so return the tag amount back to Mini-Dashboard A5.

    Make sense?

Try this, the only thing that had to be done is move the "Categories" column to column A. VLOOKUP searches down Column A until it finds a match, then goes left to the column specified, (in this case column 7 or G), and returns the value in that cell.

It looks like you are working on the same thing I am....A personal finance calculator. I have mine just about finished.
