sorting columns that contain values other than numerics

    hi,

original columns on Left hand side... after sorted by col C then by B- (Ascending) results I receive are on the right hand side.

within the data certain rows have (.) in them these need to be here as they represent a dicontinuation of products.

I am doing a rank on these columns- for a proper ranking result I need the dots (.) to be at the bottom of the list once I have sorted it. The way I have been doing this so far is after manually sorting as shown on the right I have been manually cutting the cells with (.) and pasting them at the bottom.

    sorting.xls

    your help is appreciated

    Thanks

One way is to highlight B and C, do find and replace for . (assuming only whole numbers will be in your dataset) and replace with nothing, then your sort, and then find and replace nothing with .

Re: sorting columns that contain values other than numerics

    btw thats sorted descending!
you could use a helper column say d and put something like
    =IF(ISTEXT(c2),0.01,c2)
then sort by d then b
