Excel 2007 : color change cell if hyperlink is availible

Background: There are about 50 computers on our domain which are currently accessed through a remote connection application. The problem is we don't know which ones are connected at any one time without actually trying to connect to it.

I've played around with hyperlinking the individual computers to an excel spreadsheet which works really well but I still have the problem of manually clicking each one and waiting to see if its connected or not. Is there a way to have the cell colored green with conditional formatting when the hyperlink is availible and red when not? Anyone have any other ideas as to how I can get this working? THANKS!!

perhaps you could put a spreadsheet on each computer and reference cell A1 into your master sheet. Then set the master to automatically update links and all offline 'puters would show as #REF!. Just a thought. Maybe it won't work.
