    Counting Orders

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out how to count the sale orders I have. Right now, I am manually entering both order information and then updating the order in a profit analysis sheet. Essentially, I want to be able to count each time an item appears in the sheet and then have it return the quantity sold that's in the next column to the profits analysis sheet.

I have column for quantity sold for the profits analysis in sheet 1 column G
The column for the item ordered is in sheet 2 column D
The column for the quantity of the item ordered is in sheet 2 column E

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Matt

    Re: Counting Orders

Hi Matt, and welcome to the forum.

Might I suggest posting a sample workbook with your current layout and also showing the expected results? You can use fake data, but please make sure it is representative of your actual data (i.e. whether it's text values, dates, etc.)

    Thanks!

    Re: Counting Orders

    Hi,

I looked at the sheet you attached.

I used a SUMIF in Column G of the Profit Sheet.

This will work okay provided the Values in Col A of the Profit Sheet are defined in exactly the same way as in Col D of The Orders Sheet.

If you want to use a count of Orders you can use COUNT or COUNTIF.

    Cheers

    Re: Counting Orders

Thanks for the help so far. The COUNTIF only works for me if none of the items were ordered in multiple quantities (column E sheet 2). I was trying to use the SUMIF but I could not figure out how to get it to apply to this situation. The way I understand the formula, I'm asking excel to look for the criteria in a certain range, and then I ask it to either sum the matches (which would ignore the quantity issue also) or sum other numbers (which would work but they are still in a list with other orders that I do not want summed).

Again, I appreciate the help a lot,
    Matt

    Re: Counting Orders

The formula supplied in Tony's sheet is

    =SUMIF(Orders!D:D,A3,Orders!E:E)

which sum the quantities in column E where column D is equal to the item in A3 of profit sheet.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
