Lightbulb Question about "text to columns" function

    Hello,

To get some formulas to work I have to make sure date columns have been formatted as such using "text to columns" in the data menu. It seems as though I am having to do this every time I entre a new date into the database is that right? Do you have to select text to columns every time you add some data?

I am trying to make a database that will be added to be people without good IT skills and I don't know whether they will find making the selection after they have entered any data a bit confusing.

    Thanks,

    anna

Ensure the range is not formatted as Text prior to entering values.

Re: Question about "text to columns" function

All my data has been formatted as dates and it still seems to require me to select "text to columns" before it will work out the formulas, any ideas?

    Thanks

Anna, if cells are not formatted as text, and you then enter dates in a format Excel recognizes, they will be stored as dates without any further intervention.

No one can tell from your posts what's causing the problem, so perhaps you should provide some aditional information.
