I think I've found a logic trap in Excel 2007.

If anyone knows about this, advice would be helpful

Heres the problem:

I have one master workbook which links to 25 other workbooks which are in groups of five in seperate folders all on the same network drive.

If I move the folders and master workbook from this network to my laptop drive for homeworking I have to update all the links from the master workbook to the other 25 workbooks manually.

So in one folder I have five separate workbooks labelled for example A,B,C,D,E. If I go to edit links on the master workbook it prompts with the update links window showing 'source not found' for all 25 workbooks its linked to. If I select A then select 'change source' option navigate to the correct folder with all five workbooks in (A-E), select the correct workbook i.e. A then click OK it takes a long while before it then prompts for the B link showing the same folder with the five sheets in.

If I then select the B workbook it will jump to a C update link then D & E. However unless I ignore these requests by pressing cancel it keeps me going round and round asking for updates to the C to E workbooks and never completes the updates.

I have to keep cancelling the C to E request before I can return to the update links window showing all 25 workbook links and then I can update workbook B, again prompting me afterwards for C to E etc.

I have updated Excel and Win XP with all updates and it will do this regardless if it’s on the network or on the Laptop? Basically it’s a pain to keep updating these links when it takes so long and keeps asking for links it won't complete so I have to keep cancelling

I hope this is clear? Has anyone else come across this problem? Is it just poor software design? Have I missed something obvious?

Any feedback appreciated – Thanks Dave
