Excel File Freezes When Updating Links

I have used DigDB and other resources to check for any broken links, but every link in my file is set up properly and there are no missing pieces. The workbook links to three different files and only one of them is causing excel to freeze when it attempts to update. If I have the problem source file open it will not freeze, but that is the only time. Everything has been working on this (and other workbooks designed around the same time) for almost a year now. Nothing in the source file name or path has changed and I've tried rerouting it as many different ways as I can think.

Is there any reason that a handful of different files would all start freezing when updating links to one workbook, when there are no broken links and a couple of other files are able to successfully update links to that same workbook, with the same source path?

Is there nobody that can provide any input about solving this problem?
