Indirect Worksheet Function Referencing Another Worksheet

When do I need to use single quotes when concatenating a string to reference another worksheet?

The attachment has 2 sheets--“Jan01” and “Jan 01.” Both sheets have numbers in column A, and I’d like to sum those numbers in a different sheet using the indirect function.

Apparently if there’s no space in a sheet’s name, I don’t need single quote in my formula, but if there is a space in a sheet’s name, I must include single quotes.

Does anybody know a clear reason when I must include single quotes?

    Thanks in advance.

You answered your own question; you must have them when there's a space in the name, and they're optional otherwise -- so use them all the time.
