    Project Scheduling Template

    Hi Everyone,

I'm currently researching different methods for creating a project scheduling template) of which there are many varieties.

The part I'm struggling with is where multiple engineers are assigned to a single project. Most tempaltes and formulas (vlookup, offset / match etc) I've been toying around with typically only have a one to one lookup feature and haven't been suitable. Where there's only one tech per project, I have no problem.

What I'm trying to do is to create a spreadsheet with the following rules:
    1. Assign an engineers to a Project at a start/end date/time.
    2. One engineer can only be scheduled to a single project at a time (pretty obvious).
    3. Multiple engineers may be assigned to a single project at any time as well.

The first two are easy, the thrid one is where I get multiple values in lookup functions and can only display the details of one engineer's name at any time.

Before I jump headlong into discussing formulas, I'm trying to come up with a format of a spreadsheet that can actually display this data.

If I can get the format right, the formulas shouldn't be a problem.

Just need some creative ideas, I've tried several formats and hit a mental block. Hopefully some fresh persective might help me to re-think how to approach this from the start again.

    Thanks in advance, Richard.

    Re: Project Scheduling Template

Hi SHG, thanks for the reply.

I did try toying around with Project, but then ran into the issue of being confined to static dates. The added parameter is that a tech may not only work on one project for the entire day, they may travel between location and do 2-3 jobs per day, so it needed an inout based on time as well.

I did try this and it didn't look too friendly for our admin staff, so I went back to try my hand at Excel.

    Richard.

    Hi Richard,

I think the template you will find at the link below will meet your requirements. It is a project item tracker that gives a brief summary of one or more projects with start, end and completion dates, project team etc. You can assing more than one person to a project in this template. Hope it solves your problem.
