    Thumbs down IF function with multiple options

    hi all,

    can "IF" function compare alphabets?

    .........A...........B
    1.......TYPE.....RATE
    2......PCR........25%
    3......LTR........20%
    4......TBR........5%
    5...........................
    6...........................
    7......=IF(A2=PCR,B2,B5)


    MY WORKSHEET SHOWS RESULT IN A7 AS #NAME?

    Please help me where I am wrong.

    In your formula PCR would be interpreted as being a Named Range - to use as literal string you would encase within quotations - eg "PCR".

    It's not clear exactly what you want to do but based on a hunch it might be worth looking at the VLOOKUP function in XL Help.
