    Kind of complicated - Different Excel sheets linked but not working in older Excel

    Hi,

    I had a lot of success with another post here and I'm hoping a second time will be helpful as well.

    A good friend of mine created an Excel template sheet which allows me as a teacher to have students do a quiz on Excel and where I can get immediate feedback from everyone. I can't get his help on this for reasons that would take too long to explain.

    The problem is that he created it on Excel 2007 and at school they only have 2003. When I open these at home, Microsoft Open Excel converter converts them without problem and they work fine. When I open it up at school, I don't have that option so I've had to save them separately at home as Excel Workbook. At school, when I open these files it asks to update links and that appears to be successful when I do that manually.

    However, even though the master sheet which has the quiz questions opens up properly, the other ones (the slaves?) don't. They don't show the second and third sheets within the Excel sheet (in the bottom left corner there is a button to choose different sheets). This doesn't show up in the modified version.

    I'll probably have to update this once or twice in order for it to make more sense, but I don't see the harm in including the attachments. They're in French, but otherwise make sense.

    Exercices = Master sheet
    Jean = Slave sheet

    How do I save these files so that they will work at school?

    Thanks for any and all help!

    Re: Kind of complicated - Different Excel sheets linked but not working in older Exce

    Hi,

    in a mixed 2003/2007 environment it is safest to save all files in Excel 2003 compatibility mode, with a file extension of .xls. This is the only true way to ensure that functionality is the same, regardless of what Excel version is used to open the files.

    I'd suggest going back to the original files, open them with 2007 and then save them as 2003 files. If 2007-specific functionality is used, you will most likely run into problems, so it's best to take it out while you have the chance.

    cheers
