Formula for totalling the values from a list

    Hi,

I have a data list as displayed below. Each row displays the product and and the quantity that was sold for each. Is there a formula (not a pivot table)that can tally the quantity for each product sold and display it in an Output table as like the one below?

    Eg

    Data list:
    Peaches	2
    Peaches	1
    Peaches	2 (5)
    Apples 2
    Apples	4
    Apples	6 (12)
    Pears	1
    Pears	3
    Pears	4 (8)

    Output Table (#of fruit sold):
    Peaches 5
    Apples	12
    Pears	8
    Thanks in advance.

I presume there's a good reason for outlawing Pivots given they're purpose built for this type of thing...

see SUMIF function in XL Help, eg

    =SUMIF($A$1:$A$9,$A12,$B$1:$B$9)
    copied down for remaining fruits

where A1:A9 contains your Fruit, B1:B9 quantity and A12 the criteria, say "Peaches"
