A complex project (I think)

Hi all,

I want to write an application in Excel that will process equities/futures transactions. I get from my broker an .xlv report with all of the transactions for the day. Some of the entries include account numbers, tickers, buy or sell, number of shares/contracts, price, time, etc...

What I'd like the application to do is to analyze all the data and spit out a bunch of statistics for each trade and the day as a whole. This is something I'd once a day after the close of the markets.

I don't know where to get started with this project as my level of proficiency in excel is pretty basic. But I'd like to know the best way to do this and perhaps some learning resources to help me along. If you'd be so kind as to point me in the write direction, I'd really appreciate it.
