Pivot Table off sync?

Bottom line:
When I change the page field selection in my pivot table/chart the data is not updated. It seems to be lagging the page field selection: I select page field filter = A and it displays data for A, then select page filter = B and it displays B everything is great then at some point it doesn't update the selection so if I filter = C, data still is B, then filter = D > data = C, filter = E > data = D.

I have been fighting this all week.

Background info:
Excel 2003. Page field selection changed with VBA, I have 3 pivot charts/tables, one updates the others. Pivot 1 drives the field selection for the other two (I make the selection in the chart for pvt1, then vba+event changes selection in the other two, the page fields updates fine in all 3, the data does not follow the selection in pivots 2 and 3). Pivots 2 and 3 use the same data. All three pivots pull data from Access. Save data with table layout is ON for all three pivots. I refresh the data on open with vba (not with the refresh on open pivot option) and also refresh the cache memory just in case (not sure this is needed given that data comes from Access everytime)

One more detail: each pivot has three page field filters, the first two filters work fine, only the third one causes the problem.
