Question Worksheet function to extract numbers

    Hi,

I'm needing to transfer numbers which are organised in a table, but are not logically organised (2 does not follow from 1) into a column format.
I've attached an example as this is difficult to explain. The numbers in the example table (on the left) represent data recorded in cells 1 to 20, that I would like to efficiently (using an Excel function if possible) transfer into a column format (seen on the right in the example).

I would be grateful for an help, as there are hundreds of such tables, which I will otherwise have to reenter into columns manually.

    Cheers for your valuable help
    A.

I don't think I understood well... But try with this and see is that your result:

    =SMALL($C$7:$G$10;COLUMN(A1))

(pull formula to the right and chnage ; to , if you get error).

Btw, it's good to attach example even if it's not dificult to explain

Re: Worksheet function to extract numbers

Is it that you're sorting the table into columns based on smallest to largest values? Or that you're sorting the table into columns based on a fixed position in the table corresponding to a certain column?

And how do you have these tables? Are they all in separate files that you're wanting to consolidate into a single table or lots of tables on one spreadsheet into a single table or what?

Re: Worksheet function to extract numbers

    Hi,
what I'm trying to do is sort numbers which are in the table at fixed positions (1-20). These values are of course different for each table, so it's not a matter of simply sorting values from smallest to largest.
The way the data is layed out is: I have 4 of these tables (side by side) for each date data was collected and subsequent tables corresponding to other dates are placed in rows directly below.
    Example: Date 1 table 1 table 2 table 3 table 4
    Date 2 table 1 table 2 table 3 table 4
    etc.....

I hope this makes things a little easier to understand.

    Thanks for your help
    A.

Question Re: Worksheet function to extract numbers

Ok, I do realise I'm being as clear as a puddle of mud and I am sorry. This is obviously not my field of expertise. So, I've attached another example of what I'm trying to do. If you follow the colours, i think this is definitely pretty self-explanatory.

    Thanks for your patience...

Re: Worksheet function to extract numbers

    Great job DonkeyOte!

I try to put whole table in:

    Example%20dataset2(1).xls

    and make it so complicated

    1. In Y column you must write dates so match can work (see next to 4.1.1995 is #N/A but when you change Y21 into date it will work)

    2. I add helpoer column AG and AH to make it clearely but can be implemented into original formula
