displaying date in correct format within formula

I have a simple formula as below:

="This is test text to display a date held in cell D9 on sheet 1 "& 'VALUE('sheets1'!D9)
What actually happens is the date part is displayed in its number form. I have tried formatting the cell in just about every way possible but can't get the date to display as it was in cell D9 ie. 05/08/2009

    Try

="This is test text to display a date held in cell D9 on sheet 1 "& Text(VALUE('sheets1'!D9),"dd/mm/yyyy")
not sure you need the VALUE() function if D9 has a real date in it (numeric)
Where there is a will there are many ways.
