    Merging two columns of information

One problem solved and one to go. For now

I have two very long columns of client names. The columns represent reports that were run at different times on the same information.

What I want to do is merge the two clomuns. The issue is that there are many names that are the same but some that are different. Is there a way that you can merge the info. So it ignores the client names that are the same but auto adds the ones that are new. There are financials in other columns that I want to have come along during the merger. Thanks

Re: Merging two columns of information

If you copy one column of names directly under the other column of names, then go to Data|Filter|Advanced Filter and select Unique Records Only, while ensuring the List Range is only that new column... leave Criteria Range blank and select where you want the data to go... this should result in a list of all the unique clients only.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

I do want the the other clients names as well, meaning the ones that are duplicates but I just want to end up with one copy of them. I'm going to do what you said and see what happens if I play around with the settings.

Once you do as I prescribed, you should end up with one list of all the clients, whether they were duplicated in the other list or not... this new list will show all the clients from both lists once.

Is that not what you needed?

That worked perfect, however, I don't know how to get the associated columns with the financial information to follow. For example...

When each report was run i ended up with a column of clients and then a column that indicated revenue for each client within the time frame the report was run.

This is how I see it ending up in my mind:

Column A lists the clients, column B lists revenue from the first time fram and column B lists revenue from the secnd time frame.

Without an example it is hard to visualize what you are looking at, but it seems as though Vlookup might be what you are looking at.

Try reading up on Vlookup in the Help files and see if that meets your needs. If you need more help on it, please feel free to post a sample of what you have and what you ultimately desire.

That's pretty funny! Vlookup is what I used to solve the other issue you and I were talking about and you're right that it will probably help wit this too. Thanks NBVC!
