I am using Data Validation on some fields to create a drop down list from a named range! These fields however allow you to enter values that are not in the list.
Is there a way to make the cell have to be an entry from the data validation list?

Hi QCBeauty, welcome to the forum.
Select the cell and click Data -> Validation. On the Error Alert tab, check the box labeled 'Show error alert after invalid data is entered', and then choose 'Stop' from the drop-down list below that. This will prevent any non-valid entries from being entered into that cell.
You could also set the drop-down to warning or information, which may allow the user to enter invalid data with prompting.
If you want to update all of the other data validation cells with the same data validation source/settings, check the box labeled 'Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings' on the Settings tab of Data Validation before clicking OK.
Hope that helps!
Paul,
Thanks for your help.
I've done this and it doesn't appear to be working. It still allows a user to type in something manually that is not in the list.
I'm running in 2003 compatibility mode, could that have something to do with it?
are you sure you are using =namedrange in list option?
see attached validation is in cell a1 named range is martin

When setting the Error Alert Style to "Stop:I've done this and it doesn't appear to be working. It still allows a user to type in something manually that is not in the list.
Even with the error alert set to "Stop" a user can begin making a manual entry, but when they try to exit the cell the warning message will appear.
Is it possible you are in a cell in which the changes you made were not applied?
You need to make sure that when you make changes in Data Validation that you choose "Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings" at the bottom of the first tab in the dialog.
Make sure you uncheck the 'Ignore blank' option in the Data Validation settings.
Everyone who confuses correlation and causation ends up dead.
Yes, I believe it was the "Ignore Blank" option. It is working now.
Thanks gentleman,
