    IF formula Syntax

I'm struggling with a syntax problem

If the addition of two cells (a1 and b1) do not add up to more than 10 then I would like cell c1 to display the word FAIL

    I've tried the following

    If (a1 + b1 ) < 11 then c1 = "FAIL"

    But it doesn't like it

Anyone spot what I'm doing wrong

    Thanks

    Re: Syntax help

Try putting this formula in C1:

    =If(a1 + b1 < 11,"FAIL","PASS")

If you want a blank returned instead of "PASS" then remove the word PASS but leave the quotes..
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    THANKS

That is exactly what I wanted, it was the bits between the ""'s that I was doing wrong

    Much appreciated

    Cheers

    Re: Syntax help

Where are you putting the formula? It needs to go into C1.
=IF(A1 + B1<11, "Fail", Something else or a formula or something)
    Does that make sense?
