Data validation, automatic field fill - possible?

    Hello,

I have been searching all morning to find an answer to this question, but no luck so far unfortunately. Maybe you can help me. I am trying to create a list with dropdown menu items where other fields get filled automatically depending on which item from the list I choose. The purpose is to keep track of food intake.

Let's say I create a list where information can be found about different foods. Column 1 contains the product, column 2 the quantity (grams), column 3 the calories (gr), column 4 the protein content (gr), column 5 the carbs (gr), and column 6 the fat content (gr). Two rows might then look like this:

    Chickenbreast - 100 - 100 - 22 - 0 - 1
    Oatmeal - 100 - 367 - 13 - 62 - 7

Now, I would want to keep track of my food intake during the week. What I am trying to accomplish in Excel is that when I select a product from a dropdown menu, the appropriate values from column 2-6 are displayed automatically. Is this at all possible?

I have looked into dependent lists but it doesn't seem to be exactly what I am looking for. With dependent lists it seems I could limit the entries that could be selected for the columns next to the product, but the entries don't appear automatically. Also, setting up these dependent lists for multiple rows and columns seems to be more work then I want to put into it, since ultimately I could also just turn to copying and pasting entire rows. However, if it's possible to do what I just described, I'd rather do that.

Check out the VLOOKUP function in XL Help.

Failing that - provide a sample workbook so people can visualise your setup and provide a tailored solution.
