Open 2 worksheets in 2 windows (using 2 monitors)

Hi, I have been searching the forum and have found a few similar questions but none cover my scenario exactly. I use 2 monitors (I have my desktop extended over both screens) which allows me to display 2 full screen windows at once, this is all well unless I want to display 2 FULL SIZE excel windows. I realise I can use the WINDOW - NEW WINDOW, then ARRANGE PANES function but it does not allow me to show one excel window on one monitor and the second excel window on the second monitor. I hope I have been able to explain the scenario well enough, does anybody have any ideas on how I achieve it?

I am using 2003 with XP on a Lenovo thinkpad, when I run 2003 on my home PC (vista premium) it seems to automatically open a whole new window each time and will allow me to see them both as I described above and drag between monitors with an extended desktop.

    Hi,

    apply these two settings:
    1. right-click the task bar, select Properties and uncheck the box "Group similar taskbar buttons"
    2. After that, in Excel go Tools - Options - View tab and check "Windows in Taskbar"

Now, if you open several Excel files, they should each have their icon in the task bar, which you can individually maximise, minimise, whatever.

Thanks for the reply Teylyn, I already had the "Group similar taskbar buttons" unchecked and "Windows in taskbar" activated. I only have options for minimise and restore, it basically has only one Excel window open, I can then have sub-windows (for lack of a better explanation) open within Excel but cannot maximise both at once and drag to different screens. Maybe it cannot be done with XP, the only reason I ask is that at home I can do it on Vista but I really need that functionality at work.

    Not to worry.

I'm running XP and 2003 and it works as I described. Must be something else. Are you in full control of your PC or is this on a network (Citrix or such)? If the latter, the admins may have control of these settings. I work on a Citrix network and when I launch Excel via the Citrix server I see only one icon on the taskbar, no matter how many files are open in Excel. But when I run Excel on my local machine, I can have a taskbar icon for each file.

I have full administrator access, it does show multiple windows in the taskbar but each time I click on one to maximise the other then minimises. i want to have both maximised and displayed on each screen - I can open 2 PDF, word or outlook email docs and drag them to separate screens so i can see both maximised at once, just can't seem to do it with excel.
