Highlighting entire row

Morning all,

This problem has been driving me insane, as I thought it wasn't possible to do in excel however this morning I accidentally pressed a shortcut key on my keyboard and what I wanted, happened.. pity I can't remember how I did it.

How do I highlight an entire row, but remains highlighted when i enter info in the cells until i move down to the next cell? Eg. I click on row"1" so that all cells are highlighted, then while entering info in B:1 - the entire row is still highlighted? This will be very useful in my line of work.

I know there was some information on conditioning formatting, but surely there is a way to do it via keyboard shortcut since i accidentally did it just before.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi MissLotus, and welcome to the forum.

Not sure about the shortcut key, but if you select any column or row you can then input data into just that row in sequential cell order. So if you selected row 11, A11 would become the "active" cell. You can enter information, then press Enter, and the active cell will move to B11 - and all or row 11 will still be highlighted.

Not sure if this will help but the shortcut to select the active row (i.e. the current row from the cell where your cursor is currently on) is Shift + Space Bar.

Your suggestion worked a treat! Once I did Shift + Space bar and used the arrows to move around, that didn't work. However if I do the above and press "enter" to move to the next cell... PERFECT!! Now I won't get any of my figures confused again.

You can use Tab & Shift + Tab to moving forward & backward and same can be applied on Enter .......
