    day/month/year date in excel

How do I change excel's date formatting so that when it opens up a CSV file with dates in day/month/year format, it shows up correctly in the date format? Currently, all dates with days over 12 are fine, but equal to or less than 12 excel is reformatting the day data into the month place.

If you don't have offeren idn Date format, go in custom format and write dd.mm.yy or dd.mm.yyyy or dd-mm-yy etc.
Never use Merged Cells in Excel

It is already formatted into date format automatically as soon as I open the file. Basically I need to convert the day values into month data, and the month values into day data. Or I need tot ell excel to stop converting csv data automatically.

    Give this a try.

Go to your dos prompt (start - programs- accessories -command prompt)

type in "intl.cpl" (without quotes) and enter

Check your short date and long date and see if they start with year instead of month

If so that is probably your problem

Click on Customize... button and go to the Date tab

    Change short date to MM/dd/yyyy
    Change long date to MMMM.dd.yyy

    Click Apply then OK
Click Apply on the first screen and OK

Try opening csv again and see if that corrects your problem.
