How do I link two sums to the same answer?

    Hi,

I've just found this forum and desperately need some help please.

How do I link two sums to the same result? For example:

    Cell A1= 90
    Cell B3=122
    Cell C6=144

Which formula would I use if I changed cell A1 to 88 and wanted cells B3 and C6 to reduce by 2? So they would now look like this:

    Cell A1= 88
    Cell B3=120
    Cell C6=142

    Hope I'm making sense?

You need to give more details.
What happens when you reduce A1 to 86, 84, 82 etc.?
    What's the logic here?
Is 90 the starting point for A1?
Best thing to do is post a sample file with some data and expected results.

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, you could use this in B3

    =32+A1

    and this in C6

    =54+A1

    Okay here's the spreadsheet attached:

If you look at each row. Cell A is the sum of B-G and H-T. What I want to do is if I change cell A I automatically want it to reduce cells C and K by the same ammount.

Also how do I get the cells to display each number in four digits i.e. so 88 would look like 0088 and 7 would look like 0007. I've looked in formatting but can't see it.

Thanks. I'm using Excel 2007 so I had to go in to format cells custom and type it in.

Any more help on the other problem I have?

Not sure that you can! Since assuming you calculate cell A then change it and calculate A-(sum(B:G,H:T)) for the differenc, then put it in cell c:k, this will Cause cell A to change and the whole process to restart.

The only way is to use a macro to run 1 time

( I converted to 2003 for the forum)

I am not sure if this can be done without a macro.
Further, your sum formula in Col A will be overwrite

here the 2003 version on oldchippy's request
