Anyone know how to lock a formula in a cell, protect the sheet but still allow it to recalculate when new data is entered in a unlocked cell that feeds the formula? I am using Excel 2003.
Thanks,
JM

I am confused, it does do this just as you explained it.
Split is correct. Locking a cell only stops a user from changing it. It doesn't inhibit the formulas IN the cell from working/changing/whatever it is designed to do.

Guys, Thanks for the quick response. Could this be a seeting on my computer as when I lock the formula cell then protect the sheet I cannot recalculate the formulas. I tried to do it manually just to see but no luck. Any ideas?
figured it out! There is a option you can click on when you protect the sheet to allow formulas to be edited. See attachment.
That's not what you think it is. Look at this basic sheet. It is protected and only the yellow cells can be edited. But the BLUE cell, a protected cell, still functions and its formula result changes as you change the values in the YELLOW cells.
I think there is something awry on your computer.
