Protect & hide sheet in workbook

I've stored all my on-line passwords (about 50 of them) in one sheet in an Excel workbook. I want to protect it so that if somebody somehow got access to it, they couldn't see the sheet, much less change anything.

I tried Tools/Protection/Protect Sheet and Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook, using a secret password. Then, nobody could change the data -- but they could still see it.

So then I hid the columns first, and then protected the sheet -- which did the trick. But that seems pretty cumbersome, because it involves two steps for me to open it up (unprotecting and then unhiding).

Is there a way to protect/hide in just one step so my sheet of passwords can't be seen by an intruder?

I'll be grately deepful for your assistance.

when you save the workbook you can password protect it from opening
    it varies in excel versions
in 97 when you do save as there is an options button where you can protect it
    in 2007
To do this, click on File, then Save As. When the file-save window appears, type in your file name, then select the Tools drop down menu. From that menu, select General Options.
    in 2003
    To password-protect the currently-open workbook:

    1. Click "Tools" - "Options".

    2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Security" tab.

    3. Next to "Password to open" enter the required password to open the current workbook. If you do not enter a password in the "Password to modify" section below, if someone enters the password they can read and modify the file. If you do enter a password in the "Password to modify" section below, entering this password only provides the user read-access to the workbook.

Re: Protect & hide sheet in workbook

    Hi Doctorul,

Can you please delete your previous "piggyback" post in this thread which contravenes rule number 2 of the Forum & begin a new thread for your problem?
    (see http://www.excelforum.com/forum-rule...rum-rules.html)

Is there any workaround to a smarter macro that would only ask for the password as long as the sheet is hidden? I guess the problem is accessing the form and for this I really wouldn't like to use a button to unhide the sheet...
    Any other ideas?
Yes, there will be smarter macros to do this. I suggest that when you start a new thread, you attach a small example file that includes your current code to give helpers a starting point.

U can also make sheet "unhidable"

View>Toolbar>ControlToolbox click on properties button (second from the left), and at the end of the opened window, in the field "Visible" select from dropDown list 2 - xSheetVeryHidden.

    Two step Ladies and Gentleman

    1. Hide all Columns that have data
    2. Protect the sheet with password.
    The End
