Some Sort of Lookup and return value

HI

I attached my example, this is just a sample. My real spreadsheet will have hundreds of cells if column 1.

What I am trying to do is on sheet tab callled Totals.

In column b I did an countif so that is working

In column c I would like a formula to look for a value say hockey from column a in sheet tab Sport, and if there is text or numbers in the cell beside it in column b it counts that and returns the value.

So my example is manually done and hockey has 1 and softball 2

I have amended the COUNTIF forumla in the B column, the ranges were amiss. I notice you are using 2010 version of Excel, hence the COUNITIFS function should work.
