Excel 2007 - adding second set of data to graph

    Hello All,
New to the forum and I ran a search on this but couldn't find anything relevant in 5 pages (may have searched the wrong keywords).

I'm trying to add a second set of data to the end of a bar graph. The graph consists of project names and percentage completed. At the end of every bar, I'd like to add a project end date.

I attached a copy of what I'd like to do. I tried a (bad) workaround and added a temporary graph to the right of the original graph with just the project end dates then moved the dates over to the original graph (shown in the image).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Excel 2007 help - adding second set of data to graph

    We did the following workaround:

    Insert
    Text Box
    In the formula field, input
    =<TheCellLocation>

Not the most efficient solution but it works for now. If anyone has a better idea, please post.

    Thanks

Re: Excel 2007 help - adding second set of data to graph

Depending on you chart you could use a dummy series on the secondary axis and set the dates as the category labels for the second axis.

Hard to tell without seeing the actual chart as you picture appears to have a multi series legend although the chart and data suggest only 1 series.

I'm not sure where the legend data came from. I believe it's a default. The only data I'm using is the percentages in the graph. The date completion information is what I'd like to add to the end of the bars.

The 2nd axis suggestion sounds good and I'll start looking in that direction. Thank you!

If you have any other suggestions, let me know.

    Andy,
I've been trying to repeat the steps you've done but I don't know how you added the second set of axis points. When I try to add a second set to a new set of data, the Plot Series On field is grayed out.

What set of data did you use to create the graph initially? When I select the dummy data and date, it doesn't graph properly.

I tried following these steps but the text is still grayed out:

    Thanks

Re: Excel 2007 help - adding second set of data to graph

Create a clustered bar chart based on the range A1:C5

Select the Dummy series and change to plot on secondary axis
Chart Tools > Design > Select Data
Select the dummy series and edit the Category Labels. Set the range to D2:D5

Add data labels to Dummy series
Change data labels to display categories
