How to create a calendar which populates by list of dates

    Hi there,

This is my first post and I have a limited understanding of complicated Excel formula etc.

I have been asked to create a calendar which will display, on the applicable date of expiry, a contract name. Basically so someone can go and see what contracts are due to expire. And then if a new contract comes up it will automatically be added.

I have a list of Contract names in one column followed by the expiry date.

I have looked around and there are some things which could help but they are seriously complicated and I can't work out how to apply it to my situation.

If anyone can give me some pointers it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

How about skipping the calendar, and just use conditional formatting to highlight expired contracts?

Well this is the problem. I have already done that and used conditional formatting that could be polished up but the people who requested it are adament they want it in a calendar.

I guess so they can have it on their cubicle wall and see where things are falling due and can plan around it.

Trust me I am feeling the same way...

Then have they considered using the program Microsoft wrote to create calendars and track tasks/important dates - Outlook?

We don't have Outlook, we use Lotus Notes.

    So not really an option...

    Hi,

I think I understand want you want.

The attached sheet uses a lookup table.

The table may be applied to a separate sheet with refering back to the Data sheet.

To enable the expiry dates to be displayed in order the main table would need to be sorted by expiry date.

    See what you think.

    Cheers

    Hiya Tony,

Thanks for the feedback. I pretty much had something similar but not as completed as that which I showed the party who has requested it.

Pretty much they want it in a calendar. At the moment I am trying to import it into our Lotus notes calendar to see if it will work that way. No luck yet.

there is surely the equivalent of Outlook reminders in Lotus Notes. I think you've been tasked with reinventing the wheel.

Yeah thats pretty much how I feel. I have done several other things which to me seem pretty pointless but I guess thats where I am at the moment.

I am trying to export it to a Lotus Notes calendar and hopefully if I can manage that it will work ok.

But the liklihood is that I will be made to create it in excel. So I am still willing to accept any tips.

In lotus notes you can do it easily. but in Excel i think you need a form to pop up (containing expired data) Am I right ??? but may be they are asking about calendar to pop up with out opening of file ????

Just try to attach sample file and show requirement in picture. Your problem will be solved after using macros but Calendar ???? still confusing

Re: How to create a calendar which populates by list of dates

    Thanks for the replies.

Well they want an excel document which is a calendar for say the next year. they want a list of contracts to populate that calendar according to their expiry date.

I know that doing it in excel is way way beyond my level of understanding. However my other thought was to create an excel file which can import all the contracts and their expiry dates and then export that into Lotus Notes Calendar instead of actually making the entire thing in excel.

I am pretty lost at the moment but they seem adament to have it excel based.
