Add Symbol to Data Validation List?

Is there any way that a symbol can be added to a data validation list? I have a coworker who would like to add a checkmark to a drop-down list.

Only with a combobox

I tried a combobox and instead of giving the checkmark symbol, it's showing an 'R'.

You need top use a ComboBox from the Controls ToolBox in versions prior to 2007, in 2007 Developer tab -> ActiveX controls -> ComboBox. Change it's listSTyle Property to frmListStyleOption in the properties Window of the VB Editor

I managed to create the combobox. The problem is that the symbol isn't displaying properly. Please see attached.
