Statistical summaries

Hello, I am possibly the worst person in the world when it comes to excel - I've never used it. :D

What I've been asked to do is create statistical summaries about an OH&S injury report sheet (days off work, what state they were from, ***, date of birth ect). I know how to create basic formulae such as "=MEAN(A1, A10)" but that's basically all I know. I need to know how to do distribution of of injuries by state, *** etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and any links to tutorials would be great too! :D
