    Publishing a functional spreadsheet online

    Hey Guys,

Does anyone have first-hand experience with publishing their spreadsheets online?

I want to create my own website to incorporate a functional spreadsheet (geared toward a specific use) for use by others (use being the keyword, NOT sharing). The goal is to enable users to enter specific data and have it graph real-time, store the data for future use, and then have the option to export the result (but NOT the spreadsheet file itself) to their own desktop.

One absolute requirement is that I do not want users to access the formulae or download the working file to their own computer, ie. it is a web-based application ONLY.

I am aware of the multitude of online sharing app's out there (google docs, zoho etc) but this negates the point above.

Standalone app's like 'Spreadsheet Converter' (formerly excel everywhere?), 'KDCalc' and 'SpreadsheetWeb' are also available and look promising... though they all suspiciously look similar to one another..???!!!

Does anyone have any experience with these applications, or indeed with the process of what i am trying to achieve? Any limitations wrt macros etc?

Thank you for any valuable comments you might have.

    Cheers,

    Alex

They all compete with each other, which is a good thing. I recommend trying each of them - they all offer a trial period. They each have their strengths and weaknesses dependent on what you're looking for. And make sure you understand their licensing fees.

The only other alternative I'm aware of would be Excel-Services via Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS), but it's way too enterprise-oriented for what I'm looking at. MOSS licensing assumes you're building enterprise apps to an enterprise community and so it's priced accordingly. I just need something to allow john.q.public to run scenarios through an online spreadsheet. And I don't need john.q.public sharing spreadsheet info - each should be able to run their own numbers independently. Unless MOSS is a fit for you, I think the options you've identified are it.
