    Sum of Duplicate Values

I have spreadsheet that has list of names, addresses, site, and acres. The names are duplicated because one of the names many have more than one site with different amounts of acres.

I want to sum the number of acres per name. Example:

    Johnny 10 Johnny 20
    Johnny 10

What i the best way to do this?

    Re: Sum of Duplicate Values

    Hi,

Are the names listed in one single column, or as your example seems to suggest in several alternate columns?

    Re: Sum of Duplicate Values

Richard, I think the columns to the right are meant to represent the consolidated results.

The best way is undoubtedly to use a Pivot Table, designed for this purpose, maximum flexibility for little/no effort on the part of the developer (moreover requires little in the way of expertise) -- see: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Pivots/pivotstart.htm

You will find lots of tutorials on the web including demos on YouTube etc...
