    Data transfer question....

I've just updated to Office 2007 Standard. Previously I had been using Office 2000. In the past, whenever I wanted the info in a cell to appear from a cell in another worksheet/book, I would select the destination cell, click on the source cell and hit enter. From that time on, each time the data changed in the source cell it would be reflected automatically in the destination cell.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do this in Excel 2007! Can any body help?

Btw, The toolsbars that I was using in Excel 2000 were Standard and Formatting. I've watched the demos in Help concerning the toolbars in 2007, but no joy....

    Thanks,

    rver

Hello rver, and welcome to the forum.

Are you sure you're not missing a step?

    1. Select cell in new workbook that you want to show data from old workbook
    2. Type the = sign
    3. Select the cell in the old workbook
    4. Press Enter.

That should link the cell. Works the same way in Excel 2007, 2003, 2002, 2000, 97....

You could also just type the full path to the other workbook/sheet/cell, e.g.

    ='C:\Documents and Settings\johndoe\Desktop\[June2009.xls]Production'!$E$25
