too many different cell formats

I'm using Excel 2000 (MicroSoft Office Suite) and all of a sudden it froze up on me today. I can't access my data due to "too many different cell formats". My OS = XP Home.

This is a new one (message) to me; does anyone have any experience with this issue? I'm praying that someone does and that my data is not screwed.
