    Excel 2007 phone number formatting

I need to reformat phone numbers in Excel, and I am having trouble doing so. I do not have VBA experience, but I am somewhat familiar with functions in Excel.

    I need to go from 555-555-5555 to (555) 555-5555

This is driving me bonkers. Please advise.

    Try:

    ="("&LEFT(A1,3)&") "&RIGHT(A1,8) copied down

Then you can copy and edit|Paste Special >> Values over the original if desired and delete the formula column afterwards.

    edit: Simplified formula...

    Or:

    =REPLACE(REPLACE(A1,1,0,"("),5,1,") ")
