Simpler way to record the outcomes of matches

I recently posted work of my attempts to create a league table, i feel i have probaly chosen the worst way to record the actual results of matches, causing the need for complicated formula which donkyoite has been very helpful in doing and i thank him, but i dont understand whats going on, was wondering if there was a simplier way? My work is posted below, would be very grateful for suggestions.

ok i have done that but now im back to my original problem i have no idea how to code the results of the games to produce a table of points, i,e when a team has more goals the team gets 3 points, 0 for losing and 1 for a draw.

Re: Simpler way to record the outcomes of matches

To be honest the simplest approach of all is to add the results in tabular form (list) ... eg:

    Col A: Home Team
    Col B: Home Goals
    Col C: Away Goals
    Col D: Away Team

You can if you want a Matrix view populate it from the above listing(s).

Even if you enter the scores into separate cells in matrix form you will still be left with relatively complex Sumproduct formulae to do the aggregation.

(P.S. You can never trust a gooner).

See sheet2 -- attached file -- this is how I would advise you record your results... subsequent calcs utilise more basic approaches (and are more efficient).
