Lost source data can data be retrieved

    HELPPPPPP!!!!
I have worked non-stop obviously too late at night last night. I ended up wiping out 400 entries in an excel spreadsheet. Project due Monday morning, job hangs on this.

I can still do a pivot report against the 'saved' data. So it must be out there in a file...? I read the function GETPIVOTDATA. Based on the description, It sounds like it would work to rebuild the source data. However the examples given don't see to match up with that. I have tried playing with the command, but I really don't know what I am doing and have had no luck

Does anyone know of a way to retrieve that stored data that the pivot reports are reporting against????

I'm afraid that doesn't help. The source data it refers to is from a page that has lost its data. Somewhere it must hold the pivot copy that it reuses for other reports.

If you have deleted the data & saved the workbook then I am afraid it's gone.
Have you not got a backup file?
Is the data available in another workbook so that you can copy & paste it back to your existing workbook?
    Hope that helps.

Retrieve lost data from a Pivot Table

There may be a way of retrieving the data. Double click on the Grand Total in the Pivot Table and it should recreate the original list on a new worksheet for you.

I hope this helps you out

And as a bonus, you have now gotten religion about doing backups.

Re: Lost source data can data be retrieved

Glad to be of assistance gia42. I use this method all the time, especially if there is a discrepancy in the numbers. This method also works for any of the calculations in the data field or the subtotals for each row and column.

    Pivot Tables: Best tool ever!
