this possible? here is what i am looking to do. i have multiple lines of text that i copy from a web page, and paste into excel. i have been manually pulling the numbers out of the line, but its tedious work. so i figured i'd ask to see if this is possible. the lines are *basically* all the same. the numbers in the text will change, and half the names will change (mine being the static name).
so i'm not sure if there is a way to set a variable, or wild card to pull out the data, when its another name other then my own. and then put that(those) number(s) into another cell, and then later on, as the data grows, to use it statistically.
if any of this makes sense... here is an example:
Round 1: {STORM} Desire makes a critical hit and causes 44.04 points of damage (5.91 hit points were absorbed)
Round 2: Sheykh makes a critical hit and causes 56.35 points of damage (8.54 hit points were absorbed)
Round 2: {STORM} Desire attacks successfully and delivered 28.28 points of damage (5.18 hit points were absorbed)
Round 3: The attack by Sheykh was parried successfully
Round 3: The attack by {STORM} Desire was parried successfully
Round 4: Sheykh attacks successfully and delivered 31.51 points of damage (9.78 hit points were absorbed)
Round 4: The attack by {STORM} Desire was parried successfully
Round 5: The attack by Sheykh was parried successfully
Round 5: The attack by {STORM} Desire was parried successfully
as you can see... there are two "rounds", but in reality there is only one. one for me, one for the opponent. there is the points of damage, and then the points of damage that where absorbed. so essentially the way that i see it, there are the following points of data:
-round
-name
-damage done
-damage absorbed
if i can just paste all of the text into a workbook, or *something* to automatically pull the data i need out, format it, store the formatted data someplace, and then retain the original data (for retreval or for archival purposes) to work with later on.
any help in this would be VEEEEEERY much appreciated!!! ^^
cheers!
