CSV Import yields a different outcome than Open

I have a CSV file. If I just open it in Excel 2007, Excel doesn't ask any questions and the resulting data is organized properly.

If I import the same file, and tell Excel to delimit it via commas, the resulting data is messy and unorganized. The reason that I want to import as opposed to open, is that I want to build a Macro to automatically pull in the data and make a chart based on it.

Why is Excel handling the data improperly on the import?

    Comma delimited

Without seeing the text file, I can't be sure, but I'm betting you need to import as "Comma-Quote" delimited, so that if there is an incidental comma inside a cell that needs to stay there, Excel doesn't split it into two different columns.

On the second page of the import wizard, make sure the text qualitier is "

    Hope this helps
