    same workbook dual monitor issue

Hi, this is probably a rather stupid question.

at my work place they use excel 2010. the workbook i was working on requires me constantly going back and forth between sheet 1 and sheet 2. i click the "new window" in the view ribbon but the workbook2 wouldn't open in a new window. can someone please tell me what to do?

    Hi

Try opening a separate session of Excel and opening the second workbook. (double click on the Excel icon, holding down ALT again or go the long way Start > Microsoft Office > Excel)....

You can move this new session to your second screen. However as they are in separate sessions you will not be able to do Lookups etc. from one to the other.

so does this mean whatever change i make in the original one, it won't appear in the duplicate version?

i have 2013 at home and 'new window' actually open a new session which can be moved to a second screen. does 2010 not have this function?

If you open the same workbook in a second instance of Excel, it'll be read-only.

You can have two 'windows' on to the same workbook open in the same instance of Excel, which you can then arrange as you wish.
    1. With your file open, click 'New Window' on the View menu.
    2. Click 'Arrange All' and make sure you tick the 'Windows of active workbook' box - choose Tiled/Horizontal/Vertical/Cascade as you wish.
You can now click Sheet 1 in one of the windows and Sheet 2 in the other (for example).

To spread this over two screens you'll have to manually widen the main Excel window over both screens.

(The above applies to 2010 - I don't know if there are 'better' options in 2013/2016.)

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
